Parenthood Episode 12

Since this is my 1st blog about this show I thought I would start out a little different and give my opinion on what I believe to be a truly ground breaking show. Its not to often that a show like this comes along. Not only is this show brilliantly written, but the actor just work. They all really seem like a true family letting you in on whats going on in their lives. This show is so true to real life that I find a little piece of myself in each and every character, and my husband is truly Adam Braverman. When I watch the show with my husband we literally spend the whole hour saying “that is so you” (which sometimes causes arguments, but hey). You are along for the bumpy ride with these amazing real life characters; but some how at the end of every episode you see underneath all the drama, all the trivial bull shit, they are just a family. A family who loves each other for all their faults and promises not to judge you.

So onto business. In this episode we are introduced Adams my boss at T&S, Corey. Adam immediately learns that they have clashing personalities, which leads to some amazingly sticky situations. This prompts Adam to make a decision that no one (or maybe just I) did not see coming. In the last scene of the episode Adam is interviewing for another job. The interviewer is impressed with his resume but tells Adam to pretty much count his blessing if he already has a job.

Amber and Sarah’s relationship it taken to a new level when Amber decides to join an open mike night. Amber is reluctant at first to let her mom hear her original songs but eventually gives in, which of course leads to drama and Amber deciding to pull out of the performance. But ever the persistent mom Sarah convinces her to rejoin performance; however for these characters is was so much more then that. Sarah shared with Amber how much of herself she sees in her, including her faults. It was one of those amazing “real life’ moments in the show.

Crosby and Joel FINALLY came to an understanding with the school play, but it was not easy for Crosby. He basically had to admit that he could not do it without Joel and swallow his man pride and ask him to return to as director.

In the end, once again, the whole family turned our for Ambers performance and we got yet another a glimpse of who wonderful this family really is.

I give this episode 5 out of 5 roses for making me cry every week (yes I really cry every episode when I watch this show)

Bachelor Episode 2

Well it defiantly didn’t take long for the claws to come out. Raichel and Melissa brought the drama to episode 2, and no one even knows why they were fighting.

But Raichel and Melissa were not the only ones heading up the drama club, Michelle was not to far behind. She made it very clear not only was it her 30th birthday but she was going to get the attention and the rose. With Raichel and Melissa gone I defiantly see Michelle and the “Vienna” of Brad’s 2nd season, but we will have to wait and see.

With all the drama aside Brad had 2 amazing one on one dates with to really beautiful girls, Ashley H and Jackie. Brad and Ashely H had a cute carnival date, and Brad took Jackie on a Pretty Woman reenactment date. Both girls received roses and made a connection with Brad. Michelle also received a rose on her group date and Emily received a rose after surprise guests Roberto and Ali selected her form the women as a good fit for Brad.

But in the end 3 girls were sent packing (Raichel, Melissa, and Keltie) and Brad is one step closer to finding his true love.

The season is off to a good start and here are some of my early favorites: Ashley H, Ashely S, and Emily

I give Bachelor episode two 3 out of 5 roses, hopefully more drama is coming

I give this episode 4 out of 5 roses

The Bachelor Season 15 Premiere

Well there is not much to say other then why are they bringing Brad back?

The season premiere was the typical Bachelor season premiere, limos driving up, awkward first meetings, and the girls fighting for the ever curvetted “one on one time.” What made this premiere different from Bachelor seasons past is that they brought back DeAnna Pappas and Jenni Croft, the ladies that Bachelor Brad gave the boot on his first go around as the bachelor. The tension was thick and of course they questioned his intensions, but Brad claims he is a changed man and quotes the ever popular “ I am here for the right reasons.”

Well Brad, only time (and ratings) will tell; but we will see if Chris Harrison is right when he said his favorite line at the end of the episode “this is our most dramatic season yet.”

so as far as Bachelor premiers go it was pretty typical, here is hoping for some more drama in upcoming episodes.

I give Bachelor season 15 premier 3 out of 5 roses

Golden Globes 2011

Okay, yes I know, I have been away for a long time. But what better time then now to? We are only a week away from the 2011 Golden Globes, and may I just say I could not be happier that Ricky Gervais if hosting again.

So lest get to it and talk about the nominees for film, who I think are going to win and who I want to win:

Best Motion Picture - Drama
I really feel like this one is going to be between the ever popular social network and the recently released Black swan.
Who I am voting for: The Social Network

Best Performance By An Actress In a Motion Picture - Drama
I have to say I think that Natalie Portman (Black Swan) has this one in the bag. And what a big year for her, New baby on the way and getting engaged. She will be one to look for on the red carpet, everyone wants to know what her maternity style is going to be like.
Who I am voting for: Natalie Portman

Best Performance By An Actor In a Motion Picture - Drama
This one I think will come down to Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network) and James Franco (127 Hours).
Who I am voting for: James Franco

Best Motion Picture - Comedy or Musical
For this category I have to admit I am stumped. I just don't feel like I can’t call this one, all the nominees are very strong. But if you really put a gun to my head I would have to say it will be between The Kids are Alright and The Tourist, maybe throw in a little Alice in Wonderland.
Who I am voting for: Alice In Wonderland

Best Animated Film
I really don't’ think there is any debate in this category, for sure Toy Story 3
Who I am voting for: Toy Story 3

Best Performance By An Actress In a Motion Picture - Comedy or Musical
I really think that Anne Hathaway (Love and Other Drugs) is going to walk away with this one. Big film, big reunion for her and Jake, what more can you say.
Who I am voting for: Anne Hathaway

Best Performance By An Actor In a Motion Picture - Comedy or Musical
This category all i see is a big three way tie between Johnny Depp (Alice in Wonderland), Johnny Depp (The Tourist), and Jake Gyllenhaal. We all know any time Johnny Depp gets nominated its a big thing.
Who I am voting for: Jake Gyllenhaal

Best Performance By An Actress In a Supporting Role In a Motion Picture
For this category I am really begin pulled in three different directions. Lest be honest, there are two really amazing break out performances in this category. Mila Kunis is not that 70’s any more, she has really shown that she is a great and powerful actress with this role (Black Swan). And Helen Bonham Carter (The King’s Speech), what else can I say other then she is all covered in black. I mean we are all used to seeing her in Tim Burton movies and this is a big step out of her confront zone. But then there is Amy Adams, who just sneaks up on you form behind.
Who I am voting for: My initial vote was for Helena, But I really feel like Mila Kunis is making a huge name for herself with this role so she has my vote

Best Performance By An Actor In a Supporting Role In a Motion Picture
I really think this one is going to be a fight between Michael Douglas (Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps) and Andrew Garfield (The Social Network). Both really great performances.
Who I am voting for: Michael Douglas

these are not all the categories of course, just the most popular ones. Before I move on to the television nominations I would like to take a moment to talk about the snubs. For me the big snub of the film category is Justin Timberlake (The Social Network). I mean the buzz was huge when this movie first cam out that Justin was going to get nominated for the Oscar, and we all know that the Golden Globes in a sneak peak to the Oscars. Will he get the Oscar nod? I guess we will just have to wait and see.

So onto the nods of television:

Best Television Series - Drama
I think we all know that the biggest thing this year has been Boardwalk Empire. I will be SHOCKED if they don’t take home the win, but you never know Mad Men just might sneak in and steal it.
Who I am voting for: Boardwalk Empire

Best Performance by an Actress In a Television Series - Drama
Here is can see it going two ways, Elizabeth Moss (Mad Men) or Kyra Sedgwick (The Closer). The Closer announcing it final season I think Kyra may have this one in the bag.
Who I am voting for: Kyra Sedgwick

Best Performance by an Actor In a Television Series - Drama
If Steve Buscemi (Boardwalk Empire) does not take this one i will be floored.
Who I am voting for: Hugh Laurie (hey I can dream can’t I?)

Best Television Series - Comedy or Musical
Normally I would say 30 Rock, but this year I think Modern Family is going to bring them down.
Who I am voting for: Modern Family

Best Performance by an Actress In a Television Series - Comedy or Musical
We all know that Tina Fey is going to take this one, I mean she does eery year; but wouldn’t it be nice if some one else one
Who I am voting for: Lea Michelle

Best Performance by an Actor In a Television Series - Comedy or Musical
Ou know with this season being Steve Carell’s last season with The Office I think that he just may take this one home, and rightfully so. Hey 30 Rock can’t win all the time, someone has to dethrone them (I think you can all tell I don’t like 30 Rock).
Who I am voting for: Steve Carell

Again this is not all the categories is this area, but they are the most popular. Onto the snubs - I really have to say that I am very surprised that Cougar Town got the BIG boot. I can’t believe that courtney Cox didn’t get a nod. And how did Modern Family get passed up in the best actor and actress category?

Well I will be watching to see who takes home the gold on the 16th, and I hope you all will be to.

The Blind Side

The Blind Side [Blu-ray]

The Blind Side staring Sandra Bullock, Tim McGraw, Quinton Aaron, and Cathy Bates
Directed By Jason Lee Hancock

Nominated for 2 Academy Awards including Best Actress in a Leading Role - Sandra Bullock, and Best Picture
Won a SAG award for Best Actress - Sandra Bullock and a Golden Globe for Best Actress - Sandra Bullock

The movie The Blind Side follows that story of a high school aged boy who is homeless and is taken in by the Tuohy family, initiated by the families wife and mother Leigh Anne. Leigh Anne is drawn in by the amazing heart that boy, Michael Oher, posses; and how he has overcome so much in such a hard life. They take him on as one of their own, buy him a car, get him started in sports, and help him in his school studies. The story, based on true events, reminds me so much of the story of Erin Brockovich. Both of the main characters are strong female role models and for some reason when I saw the preview for the first time I said to myself "Sandra Bullock is going to win the Oscar." Hopefully she won't forget to thank Leigh Anne Tuohy in her acceptance speech like Julia Roberts forgot to thank Erin Brockovich, thats right I see in my crystal ball that she will be taking home the coveted gold statue. Her performance was acting at its best, and the movie...WOW. An amazing cast and an amazing story, to quote a line form the movie "I'm not changing his life, he's changing mine." If you are not changed by this movie that you are not watching it with opened eyes.

I give The Blind Side 6 out of 5 roses

Julie and Julia

Julie & Julia [Blu-ray]

Julie and Julia staring Merly Streep, Amy Adams, Stanley Tuccie, and Chris Messina

Directed by Nora Ephron

Nominated for two Golden Globes including Best Movie - Musical or Comedy, and Best Actress - Musical or Comedy.

The story of Julie and Julia takes place in New York, and Paris France. It is the story of 2 different women who have never meet but are taking a wonderful culinary journey together. The movie is loosely based on the book Julie and Julia: 365 days, 524 recipes and 1 Tiny Apartment, By Julie Powell. Two different women, living in two different times, doing the same thing but for different reason. For someone who loves watching the food network and enjoys cooking I have to say I loved it; for my husband who hates the food network and loves to barbecue I have to let you know he was off of the couch about half way through. I also feel compelled to say that this movie has been nominated for more awards then I thought it would be. I was under the impression that this film would have a very specific audience, my husband and I being a prime example, but I am pleasantly surprised to find out that my husband is in the minority. Do I see an Oscar nod in my crystal ball? Its hard to tell, maybe for Best Picture but not for much more, but I would love to be wrong.

I give Julie and Julia 5 out of 5 roses
